Think Green

The use of terms such as renewable energy, conservation and Fairtrade are commonplace nowadays but how are they affecting everyday people across the globe? This is a question Priscilla Telmon sets out to investigate in Think Green. Scandinavia is heralded as a leading light in advancing ecological thinking, so Priscilla jumps on her bike to explore how this is put into practise. After admiring Denmark's impressive wind farms, she enjoys Sweden's renowned national parks before visiting Norway's extraordinary plant research facility in Svalbard. Water is the subject of Priscilla's visit to India and its struggle to maintain this precious resource. Priscilla also visits Japan, a country often at the forefront of technological innovation, to see if the country's brightest minds can place technology at the service of sustainable development. Priscilla finds a booming urban agriculture and an electric car straight from the realms of science fiction whilst in Mali she attempts to discover if Fairtrade has a real impact on local producers. With the pace of deforestation often in the news, Canada offers a good news story as it has been exemplary in this regard, fostering a multitude of positive initiatives. On her journey Priscilla meets some inspirational figures fighting to preserve the best world possible for future generations.

1  Scandinavia

Priscilla Telmon tours Scandinavia to investiage the region's ecological credentials. Firstly, Priscilla visits Denmark and its alternative neighbourhood of Christiania, before looking at the country's impressive wind farms. Next it's onto Sweden to visit some of Europe's best preserved national parks. Lastly, Priscilla visits Norway where she ventures into the extraordinary 'Noah's Ark for plant genetics' in Svalbard.

2  India

Priscilla Telmon visits India look look at the country's attempts to preserve its water. In Rajasthan she meets Rajendra Singh, known as the Man of the Water, and hears of his plans to build reservoirs to fight desertification. Priscilla also looks at efforts to clean up the Ganges, led by local spiritual leader Veer Bhandra Mishra. With other plans for water purification and waste water treatment, India is looking ahead to safeguard its precious water supply.

3  Peru

In Peru, the politics around the timber industry are changing. Vast tracts of the forest have been cleared but now indiginous people like the Shipibo are fighting to preserve the rainforest and their unique understanding of the plant contained there. Priscilla Telmon looks at the struggle for their land and beliefs.

4  Mali

Fairtrade, a generous idea or a marketing strategy? Priscilla Telmon visits Mali to see if the initiative is helping local producers and artisans. Priscilla investigates how West Africa and the large plains of Mali and Burkinoa Faso are showing great results from Fairtrade and sustainable developments.
